With the lastest official population count of 28,507 with the 2000 census, Severna Park experiences slow growth due to critical areas that limit developers.

There are great educational resources available through the Anne Arundel County's (public) school system, as well as independent and parochial schools. Post-secondary education is also offered her within the county at Anne Arundel Community College, Center of Applied Technology-North in Severna and the Center of Applied Technology-South in Edgewater. There is also close access to Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas with more than 70 colleges and universities. Recreation
Recreational activities are available for anyone from young children to senior citizens. Cypress Creek Park, Kinder Park, and Waterford Park, to name a few, offer a variety of activities including tennis, basketball, baseball, softball, handball, football,  hiking and jogging paths, as well as picnic facilities and playgrounds. There is also easy access to the B&A Bike Trail which extends from Glen Burnie to just north of Annapolis, available for walkers, runners, bicyclists, and equestrians. The paved, ten-feet wide 13.3 mile linear park follows the route of the Old Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad from its northern origin in Glen Burnie, to Annapolis in the south.

With an increasing senior population, local Senior Citizen Activity Centers offer a wide variety of educational and entertaining classes, with transportation to and from the centers being provided. Educational opportunities, health screening, recreational activities, and hot nutritious lunch is available at five centers throughout the county.  Monthly activity schedule are available for ages 55 and older.
